wow today was my first day of work.. guess where? lol. at the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort. :) it was pretty fun! it's kind of cool thinking that I get the chance to see what the IR looks like before most Singaporeans do. haha. it's kind of meaningful too if like one day you think back and go, 'oh hey I had a part to play in contributing to what the IR is today.' lol! okay although it might be just that teeny weeny much.
the job so far has been pretty basic: basically it's helping to unpack POS terminals (army guys will probably know what's this- the touch screen thing to record who comes for meals etc, in the case of the restaurants I think they'll probably use it to view availability of seats or take orders) and doing some basic settings and checks before packing them back into the boxes again to be deployed to the restaurants and cafes I guess. So far haven't got a chance to go check out those places, but I think soon I'll get the chance to check out the casino! if we're deployed there haha. no need to pay $100 lol.
and wow the construction of this IR really created a lot a lot of jobs, as the government promised. there's so many people working there in all sorts of positions, from chefs to construction to safety to security to housekeeping to planning and so many more I'm sure. haha. the housekeeping side was mainly all ah tiongs! LOL. the IR really takes good care of its workers. the lunch is really good with lots of variety plus in air-con, from muslim to western to indian to salads etc. but I heard from another temp guy working together with me that a small portion of their salary goes into paying for the lunch. not sure how true, but anyway it was free for us coz one of the permstaff used his pass. :D and the amount of food the china people take at the canteen is like... oh my. like they haven't eaten in days! there was this china woman who piled a mountain of rice onto her plate. I have never seen a woman eat that much rice before. And it's not like she was plump or anything! just average built. amazing huh. then there were other china men who piled huge mountains of lettuce and greens onto their plates.
quite fortunate I got this job coz Kokyi recommended. no need interview some more, plus no need wear working attire. previously sent out several resumes but only recruit express replied, so was quite sian already. haha. hopefully I enjoy this job! gonna be pretty short term though... they're rushing for the opening of the IR which is on April 27th... I wonder if they'll make it.. haha. see how it goes! :D
